The Graduate School Language & Literature Munich offers German and international graduates who have an above average final grade-point average and a desire to achieve further academic qualifications doctoral studies in an excellent environment.

There are two paths to graduation from the Graduate School:

  1. Structured doctoral programs, with an especially intensive team-supervision and a clearly structured course of study, are currently available in the fields of Linguistics, Literature, Language Education and Culture and History. Associated programs funded through outside research grants also offer this opportunity.
  2. Individual doctoral studies can be pursued at the Graduate School in a flexible atmosphere that provides the doctoral candidate with both a plethora of qualification opportunities and an intensive exchange with other young researchers.

Additional information and counseling options can be found on the websites of the four classes linked above, as well as on the site of the doctoral candidate platform docphil (individual doctoral studies).

International graduates can get more information about doctoral studies at the LMU from the Graduate Center and the International Office of the LMU.
